Instant and lasting energy for Industry 4.0
Industrial automation is a constantly evolving sector, driven by the need to increase production efficiency, ensure operational continuity, and reduce energy consumption. In this context, supercapacitors are emerging as strategic components for intelligent energy management.
Traditionally, batteries were used to provide backup power or to support peak loads. However, their limited life, long recharge times, and cyclic degradation are limiting factors. Supercaps, on the other hand, offer:
- Fast and continuous charge/discharge cycles
- Extended service life (up to 20 years in controlled environments)
- Tolerance to harsh operating conditions
- Ability to integrate into confined spaces thanks to miniaturized modules

In the industrial sector, supercapacitors are used in a variety of applications:
- Power backup for PLC controllers and industrial PCs: in the event of a power failure, supercaps maintain sufficient power to allow data to be saved and systems to shut down safely.
- Support for electric drives: during peak moments (e.g., simultaneous motor start-up), supercapacitors provide instant power, preventing network overloads.
- Regenerative braking: in robotic systems, the energy generated during braking is stored in supercaps and reused, reducing net consumption.
- Temporary power supply for sensors and wireless devices: supercaps guarantee energy autonomy even in the absence of a fixed power supply.
From an economic point of view, although the initial investment in supercapacitors may be higher than for batteries, the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is lower in the medium to long term, thanks to their longer life and lower maintenance requirements.
In an industrial world increasingly focused on sustainability and digitalization, supercapacitors represent a concrete solution for improving the reliability and energy efficiency of automated systems.
